Not necessarily. Like skiing, technique is a lot more important that brute strength. Most students are successful if they’re dedicated and committed. It’s no different than learning any other skill in life. Time and commitment.
Yes, a little. Any board sports will help you with board control. However, about 90% of the learning is handling the kite, so using a trainer kite can get your skills up quicker.
You can buy a complete set of secondhand gears (board, kite + bar, harness+surfsuit), depending on condition, anywhere from 5000dkk to 10000dkk. Price ranges for new gear are: Kite: 8000dkk to 14000dkk, Board: 3000dkk to 5000dkk, Harness: 800dkk to 2000dkk. Please note that if you are buying a second hand kite, make sure that the kite you are buying is less than 4 years old. Every year there are improvements in the safety of kites – by buying a relatively recent kite you will keep yourself safe. Never be tempted into buying a cheap old kite if you are a beginner – they are cheap for a reason and can be very dangerous.
It depends on the wind direction. We can decide where to go approximatively two days in advance depending on the weather-forecasts.
We meet on the parking lot, we’ll send you a pin.
Mostly weekends and afternoons.
We will contact you as soon as possible if the conditions are forecast to be unsuitable and re-schedule the lesson for a later date.
We’ll wait. If it doesn’t get better, your lesson will be rescheduled. There will be no charge.
Thanks to massive design improvements of the kites in last couple of years, the sport has become much safer. I only use the latest and safest equipment, all of which have ‘let-go’ safety systems that kill 100% of the power of the kite on demand. The youtube videos you may have seen are probably from a long time ago.
I don’t know about other schools, but we are!
Everybody learns the sports at different rates, but we generally find that a few days is enough time to get the basics to continue comfortably practising. Riding confidently back and forth takes a little more time, but comes quickly over your next 2 or 3 sessions and then progression is very fast.
Look at Barack Obama who learnt it recently! Yes you can! It will take a bit longer but you’ll manage…
You must only weight over 40kg 🙂
Everything is supplied for the kite courses; all students are given wetsuits, buoyancy aids, harnesses and helmet as well as the kitesurfing equipment but please bring some warm clothes as it’s almost always windy and can be cool even on a sunny day. Also sun cream, sunglasses (cheap ones!) and a towel plus and food, drink or snacks you may want. Bring clothes you don’t mind getting a little sandy.
